چکیده

We have performed large-scale molecular dynamics simulations of coexisting solid and liquid phases using 4e(s/r) interactions for n59 and n512, and for Lennard-Jones systems, in order to calculate the equilibrium melting curve. The coexisting systems evolve rapidly toward the melting temperature. The P – T melting curves agree well with previous calculations, as do the other bulk phase properties. The melting curve for the Lennard-Jones system, evaluated using various truncations of the potential, converges rapidly as a function of the potential cutoff, indicating that long-range corrections to the free energies of the solid and liquid phases very nearly cancel. This approach provides an alternative to traditional methods of calculating melting curves. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1474581#

شبیه سازی ذوب سیستمهای دو بعدی

The study of a two-dimensional (2-D) system started nearly half a century ago when Peierls and Landau showed the lack of long range translational order in a two-dimensional solid. In 1968, Mermin proved that despite the absence of long range translational order. Two-dimensional solids can still exhibit a different kind of long range bond orientation. During the last decade, fascinating theori...

Melting point and phase diagram of methanol as obtained from computer simulations of the OPLS model.

In this work, the melting point and the phase diagram of methanol is determined via computer simulations using the OPLS model. The three different solid structures that are found experimentally were considered. By computing the free energies of both the fluid phase and the three different solid structures (alpha, beta, gamma), the initial solid-solid and fluid-solid coexistence points were dete...

Melting curve of face-centered-cubic nickel from first-principles calculations

The melting curve of Ni up to 100 GPa has been calculated using first-principles methods based on density functional theory (DFT). We used two complementary approaches: (i) coexistence simulations with a reference system and then free-energy corrections between DFT and the reference system, and (ii) direct DFT coexistence using simulation cells including 1000 atoms. The calculated zero pressure...

The melting point of ice Ih for common water models calculated from direct coexistence of the solid-liquid interface.

In this work we present an implementation for the calculation of the melting point of ice I(h) from direct coexistence of the solid-liquid interface. We use molecular dynamics simulations of boxes containing liquid water and ice in contact. The implementation is based on the analysis of the evolution of the total energy along NpT simulations at different temperatures. We report the calculation ...

Ab initio melting curve of molybdenum by the phase coexistence method.

Ab initio calculations of the melting curve of molybdenum for the pressure range 0-400 GPa are reported. The calculations employ density functional theory (DFT) with the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof exchange-correlation functional in the projector augmented wave (PAW) implementation. Tests are presented showing that these techniques accurately reproduce experimental data on low-temperature body-cente...
